Sportsman Action Photos From PBIR: Southern Sportsman Showcase – Wheels Up!

(Photos by Benoit Pigeon) – Along with the rockin’ pro mods in the RPM pro mod program, there was a highly competitive group of sportsman racers that were competing in the Southern Sportsman Showcase part of the program at PBIR. We’re talking cars all the way from the most basic of foot brake drag racers to some really gnarly fast dragsters that were packed with the most advanced tech you can find in the sport today. There were also X632 cars and Outlaw 632 machines running their own class which carried with it an awesome custom built trophy.

The photos were blasted by Benoit Pigeon and they capture a strong cross section of the stuff that was there in the sportsman ranks. The wheel standing two door Chevelle is an awesome piece and it was built by the racer who was running. He and some buddies shortened the four door wagon in some ridiculous span like two weeks! We’d be at it years and it would not look as good as this one does.

The last point we’ll make is that the quality of the racing on the sportsman front was incredible. We saw dozens of runs with both drivers on their dial-ins with a little bit of change behind it. Guys with packages that normally win entire events were bring thrown out left and right by guys and girls making runs that were totally unconscious. Thanks to the great staff at PBIR and the RPM association for having us at the event. We look forward to keeping it rolling in 2017!

Thanks for the great pictures! Rick McDonough’s wagon was NOT shorted. They moved the B-pillar back, used Chevelle 300 2 door doors, modified the glass frames, custom fabricated the new window glass, and filled the body gaps. The wagon appears shorter, but is stock length. Just wanted to clear that up. Fabulous photos! Again, thanks!
