I”ve got to thank Wes Tarkington for chirping into my ear about this awesome steel 1949 Anglia that is currently for sale on eBay. The car has an LS3 engine so that’s 400+ horsepower of 6.2L GM goodness in there and with its black paint, black steel wheels, and hunkered down look this thing is all kinds of mean. The car does need to be finished though. The engine is mounted but there is still plumbing and other work necessary to make it a running and driving hot rod. We bet that it will be scary fast once it is running because the seller claims a sub weight of about 2,200lbs wet. Yikes! Considering that Camaros that weigh almost a ton more than that are fast, we can only image the thrill ride this little sucker would be.
Rather than rehash what the seller is pitching, I’m going to place the text from the ad right here. There is an ad link at the bottom of the page below the photos. Note the infamous “no tire kickers” line in there. Had it been running you can almost count on the “no test pilots” line. The dude is telegraphing his punches. Asking price? $37,500 smackers.
Here’s the text of the ad:
This auction is for the complete car and drivetrain listed, although might sell less drivetrain.
The car needs some odds and ends to be finished up..( fuel lines ran, interior upholstery and etc.).
Probably the only LS3 powered Anglia in the USA.
1949 All steel Ford Anglia, yes original steel body, doors, front fenders, grill, deck lid, and steel rear fenders..This car has a/c, cruise control, stereo and etc.
The car has a all new straight from GM 6.2 LS3 All Aluminum fuel injected engine ( same power plant that comes in the 2015 SS Camaro)
Billet specialties billet front drive system ( right at $3k just for this system)
Speartech custom super sanitary wiring harness (fuel injection/engine/transmission)
Lokar drive by wire billet throttle pedal/module
Aluminum custom radiator
Spintech mufflers (2)
New 4L60e built transmission, new converter
Fuel cell with Aeromotive EFI fuel pump
Fatmans fabrication mustang II front end with tubular a-arms and dropped spindles ( the wheels/tires fit under the fenders like they should as most Anglias do not).
Coilovers
“Mini-tubbed” in the rear.
Bucket seats ( nice seats not some aluminum deal)
Gauges ( new classic looking)
Stereo with ipod hookup and hands free
Vintage A/C and heater concealed behind dash
Texas 1949 plates
The engine is mounted low and back so the car will handle great, stop great and of course it looks great..
The car has a ton of custom frame work, the components on the car are new, the paint on the body has been on there since the 80s but the tuxedo black color still looks very nice..There are some small paint chips on the fenders but nothing that takes away from it.
I have over $40k just in the car ( not counting 1,000s of hours of labor), if you have ever tried to find a all steel Anglia that is nice and do a late model All Aluminum LS3 efi engine in any car then you know what it cost.. It will cost you close to $20k just to do a LS3 swap in a street rod ( transmission, billet front drive accessories/brackets,custom wiring, fuel system, and of course the engine itself and thats not counting labor for mounts and etc)..
The 2015 SS Camaro weighs 3720 lbs and runs a conservative 13.2 in the 1/4 mile, this car will weigh around 2200 lbs which will be a easy 11.60-11.80 car in the 1/4.So it will have plenty of power if you choose to use it..Pretty impressive for a car you could drive across country with the A/c blowing cold and get over 20mpg!
The car needs the fuel line ran( i have the braided black hose, and all the fittings for the car), mount ecm (goes behind dash), hook up wiring harness ( built for this car)radiator hoses, and the interior upholstery(although is fully operable as far as the interior goes and could be driven the way the inside is)
This car is a easy $50k + car when done.

That thing has as much leg room as a match box.
another good car ruined with an ls engine. that is the first thing I would pitch and put a real engine under the hood. 3rd gen hemi.
Was thinking EcoBoost 3.5 actually…
Metric Hemi doesn’t count.
I agree with you, great looking car, reminds me of a British taxi, but I would also put in a 3rd gen. hemi.
