This 1974 Pontiac Firebird Espirit Has Low Miles And May Be The Nicest Original Example On The Planet

This 1974 Pontiac Firebird Espirit Has Low Miles And May Be The Nicest Original Example On The Planet

So we’re geeking out of a 1974 Firebird. No, it is not an SD-455 car. No, it is not a 400 4bbl car. This is a 350 2bbl 1974 Pontiac Firebird Espirit and it is probably the nicest original example that exists in the wild today. The car is for sale on CL in the St. Louis area and we were tipped off to it by Scott Markham who proclaimed himself, “Not even an F-Body guy” but even the “not even an F-body” guys realize how sweet this thing is and that seeing a second generation F-body in this shape is a rarity for sure. The car has 51,000 miles on it and the current owner is the third person to lay claim to it. The other people, both of whom are likely sufferers of OCD each had it for 20 years a piece.

We make the joke about OCD but how does a car like this stay so nice? Even the most well intentioned of owners can suffer a fender bender or expose the car to a couple of salty winters and have it rot around them. This thing has lived the life of a pampered automotive pet! Also it is lucky that it never fell into the clutches of a kid or a hot rodder of any sort that would have taken that 350 and at minimum swapped a 4bbl on to it or worse. The Espirit model was a low buck package to begin with so whoever laid out the cash for this car in 1974 wanted the looks and wasn’t too concerned about the performance end of the things. Sorry, but we cannot stop staring at the interior! Holy smokes it is pristine.

Here’s the text of the CL ad in case it sells…and it WILL sell:
This is a rare car. 1974 Pontiac Firebird Esprit, #’s matching engine with only 51,458 original miles. This car is akin to a “barn find.” It was a 2 owner car when I purchased it (both owners had it about 20 years) and rarely driven. It has always been adult owned and driven. The car is pretty close to being COMPLETELY ORIGINAL!!! What makes this car so rare is the model (look up these Firebirds online and you may not find any available), the very low original mileage and the fact that the car is in very good shape for being completely original.

Basic Specs:
350 2 barrel engine
Automatic transmission
Working power windows
A/C
Power Brakes
Power Steering

The interior is very nice. All buttons, knobs, etc are fully functional including the power windows. The drivers side has a repairable split in it (see the pics) and one of the sail panels needs replaced but other than that, the interior is in very good shape.

The engine and transmission run great. I rebuilt the HEI distributor, carburetor and front and rear brakes including new rear brake lines, and new master cylinder. The exhaust system is in great shape. I also completed general maintenance including replacing the spark plugs, air filter, oil change, etc.

New tires as well.

The body is straight, the floor pans, torque boxes, trunk, etc are all in good shape. There is some rust that will need to be repaired on the quarter panels and lower passenger fender.

This car can be driven around as is, or could be a fairly easy cosmetic restoration.

I do not need to sell this car so don’t bother low balling. Serious buyers only! Please email with any questions.

I will consider a partial trade for a other classics, preferably 60’s to early 70’s Mustang, or a 70’s to late 80’s Corvette. Must be a good running car without a lot of mech or body issues. Must have some cash out to trade.

I have a 1974 Firebird Esprit that is also Hondouras Maroon Metallic with a white interior. Currently have 27,600 miles and I am the original owner. Car was stored in my father’s garage for 30 years and last year had a lot of work done to it to get back on the road. You have some competition for the nicest original example on the planet! 🙂
