Watch The Real Stone Woods and Cook Willys Make A Pass At Fremont In The 1980s

Watch The Real Stone Woods and Cook Willys Make A Pass At Fremont In The 1980s

Now THIS is some nostalgia drag racing footage. Taken sometime in the mid-1980s at Baylands Raceway (Fremont Raceway) you are going to see the real Stone Woods and Cook Willys make a screaming rip down the track. In the process the car runs 11.07 at a little over 130 mph. The car sounds awesome and we’re guessing it is Mike Cook driving. We think that by this point the car had a blown hemi back in it making the power but we cannot be sure.

This isa representative gasser run made by a real period car. Taking nothing away from the guys and girls with gassers today (outside of the tightly controlled Southeast Gassers group) the majority of the car are not 100% true to the roots of what they are representing. That’s not a knock, that is the byproduct of evolution.

While this is a single pass we can squint hard and see KS Pittman chasing the Stone Woods and Cook car all the way down the strip. Can’t you?

Thanks so much. Brings back great teenage memories for me: Lions, San Gabriel, Pomona.

That’s when racing was fun, now you can’t tell what the cars are and you need millions to race and thousands to just watch.
