Street Car Takeover Indy: Maybe A Little Less Glue On The Track Next Year?

Street Car Takeover Indy: Maybe A Little Less Glue On The Track Next Year?

Having a sticky track at an event like Street Car Takeover is a racer’s dream. Takeovers aren’t so much about the racing as they are about the showboating, it seems. You want to get the crowd on your side and you want to entertain. Getting a track to cut loose with is an added bonus where you can make your side bets and run as fast and hard as you wish, get your testing in if you need, and if you just want to be a hoon…well, as long as you aren’t interrupting the racing schedule, what the hell, why not? They are a different setup than a normal race but I’ve enjoyed every one I’ve been to. The recent one that went down at Lucas Oil Raceway brought some interesting rides, including a Mustang that has a salad bowl-sized turbocharger, a V8-swapped Geo Tracker that is absolutely one of the most sketchy things to have ever gone down the track (the back hips shake like Shakira in the middle of a dancehall) and…well, you can see what’s happened to that poor Nissan for yourself. And that’s not even the highlight of the video…that award goes to the guy in the red turbocharged mid-2000s Mustang who had a Code Brown moment when the car just decided to hang a right in the middle of a run!

If you want to see all sorts of good racing, like a Honda S2000 that makes roll racing an art form, or some legitimately fast Hondas going against Camaros that are reaching for the sky, hit play. Trust me on this one…I got sucked into watching the whole thing myself!

I wish to hell they’d quit gluing the tracks altogether! Let drivers drive! Then we’d see a realistic adjustment to et’s as well.
