Decade of Spills: Is This 2014 Video of Todd Lesenko The Greatest Drag Racing Slow Motion Footage Of All Time?

There is amazing footage and then there is the stuff that makes you drop your jaw, lean towards the screen, and think, “Jeez, I gotta see that again.” This footage from 2014 at Pomona showing Todd Lesenko suffering a massive explosion and reacting to it in both real time and in super slow motion is astonishing. The way he drives the car on instinct after the body has been blown off is really something and the car that he hits nothing is even crazier than that.

I’ve been looking back over the last 10 years of NHRA drag racing coming into the 2020 season, kind of just looking for the scary, wild, off-the-wall moments that happen now and again. Thankfully we had a very clean season as far as wrecks go in the professional ranks in 2019 and here’s to hoping 2020 is the same. As we see here, things in drag racing change in an instant and when they do, those drivers who are prepared look like this and those are are not are usually loading their cars into the trailer in the form of a pile  of twisted chromoly tubing.

Is this the greatest slow motion footage of all time? Watch and tell us.

Did anyone notice the clear face shield up at 1:30 ?Then it comes part ways down but doesn’t close . Have seen this before on Del Worsham and Cruz Pedregon slow motion body shredding blower explosions .Breather mask are outlawed why ? Maybe the blower needs to go out in front of the motor and be ducted into the intake manifold with a huge one foot square burst panel pointing up thru the body on top of the engine . You could overdrive the blower with quick change type gears . the added benefit of more weight on the front wheels might improve 60 ft times like a dragster . Remember when racers like Garlits tried new things . Hmm
