It is time for a big block swap! It turns out that Tommy had the perfect engine for the Henry J and just had to make sure it was a good runner! In this video you’ll see it get yanked, and reinstalled in the Henry J as well.
If you missed the other videos of Tommy Lee Byrd’s new project, you missed a lot. We’ve got a link to those videos down below, including finding it and the first round of work that got done to it after getting it home. If you know anything about Tommy Lee, then you know that he’s a historian at heart and a super sleuth when it comes to finding out the history of a specific old race car. It is his super power really, and in the last video he’s went over the hidden history behind the Henry J after adding it to the Hot Rod Hoarder collection.

Video Description:
It’s time to test fit the big block Chevy into the Henry J, but first I wanted to see how it runs in the donor El Camino. After a quick inspection and test drive, it was time to tear the El Camino apart and rip the big block and TH350 automatic transmission out. Of course, it was more difficult than it should’ve been, as was the installation process. Obstacles got in our way, but follow along as we solve a few problems and get this abandoned drag car one step closer to being back on the road.
In this episode, we used a Transdapt transmission crossmember from Summit Racing, and burned through a few cut-off wheels, grinding discs and drill bits to get things situated in the old Henry J chassis. Most of all, we had fun.
