The American Powertrain Parting Shift: 292 Cubes of De-Stroked Boss 302 at 9500 RPM

For this week’s parting shift we head to an unknown eighth-mile drag strip where a kick ass Super Stock four-speed Mustang makes a honkin’ lap after launching at more than 9,000 RPM. Even you bowtie devotees have to dig this one.

It’s pure perfection, from the stratospheric launch revs to the power-shifting down the 660-foot course. The guy who posted the videom on YouTube claims that the car is running a Boss 302 engine that has been de-stroked to 292ci. We know that it likes to rev and the driver likes to shift and that’s perfect, right?

The sound of this engine being brought up to laugh RPM, spinning what sounds to us like a heavy flywheel and then coming off the line perfectly is music that BangShifters will love. You can hear the revs climb and fall during the run and it sounds like there’s a traditional four speed in this car rather than a Lenco or Jerico. The way the revs kind of wing up between gear changes is interesting.

There are few sounds on Earth “mo betta'” than a very high compression small block engine with a huge camshaft idling. The thing sounds like Satan’s popcorn maker.

PRESS PLAY AND LISTEN TO THE REVS!
