Wait…what? Yes, a top alcohol funny car here in the Parting Shift! Remember, these cars get shifted down track and alky floppers are insanely difficult to drive. You’ll see why in a couple of minutes as you watch the video but some things to consider first. I have known more than one person who made an honest attempt at learning to drive one of these cars and gone down in flames. Just staging an alky car is a complex and difficult operation that can take some drivers weeks to master and some people literally can never do it.
There is no two step. The driver manually has to bring the revs up to the decided level, dump the clutch while releasing the brake and getting his second hand on the wheel, and start to steer the car. Down the track, he has to punch the button to shift the car into high gear, again while steering the hell out of the thing as it tries to go every which way but straight ahead. This is not the type of race car for the weak of spirit, that is for sure. On top of all the operations described above, there’s a cloud of clutch dust filling the cabin, and tire shake occasionally, like you will see here also. If it is wrong to have an alky funny car as part of the Parting Shift, I don’t want to be right.
