Split Decision: This Video Talks About The Reasons That Ford Small Blocks Split In Half

There are certain truths that gearheads hold self-evident. Hemis are nearly indestructible, anyone can build a small block Chevy, and a Ford small block is going to split down the middle like a baked potato at some point when the power level gets too high. We have heard 20,000 different power numbers, reasons why, flaws, theories, and ideas as to the whole phenomenon of two piece mouse motor Fords. This video talks some great truth with knowledge and experience to back it all up.

There’s a definite reason this happens and the block itself doesn’t know if you are making 300hp or 600hp. It only knows the strain you are placing it under and a badly built low HP engine can have the same tumultuous effect that a ragged edge killer engine can have. This conversation talks about engine building, balancing, and the hard facts behind busted blocks of the Ford variety.

The presenter here is Ben Almeda who is an engine builder and has clearly seen some thing in his time around drag racing. Here’s some how’s and why’s of busted cast iron!
