(Photos by David Whealon) – The Southeast Gassers Association continues to be one of the great shining lights in the world of drag racing and the these photos from a recent outing at Shadyside Draway are proof positive. The series continues to grow, the car counts and fans keep coming, and Quain Stott continues to oversee the enterprise with the hardcore demeanor that needs be present if things are going to keep moving in the direction that they are.

It is impossible to give Stott too much credit for the success of this organization. This whole thing kind of sprang from his mind and has grown at a closely measured pace because of him. They continue to run at the right venues and continue to keep the cars maniacally close to what the late 1960s rule books of drag racing said that they could be. Parts, paint, hell even wheelie bars that are not of the right generation, look, and feel are illegal. Any driver aids are illegal, and the class lineup continues to expand in a logical way.

There is tech, there are occasional controversies, and there’s all the good stuff that comes along with proper drag racing. No one, not a single person has ever run an organization like this and been loved universally. Jim Tice, Wally Parks, Larry Carrier, Bill Bader, go right on down the line. No, we are not saying SEGA is that size but those were all guys with a vision of what they wanted their deal to be and that is what Stott has.

The result of that vision and leadership is a killer show that delights fans, brings track operators a paycheck, and allows Quain and his band of merry men and women to pursue the passion they have for these cars and this era of drag racing. A truly incredible story through and through in 2020!
