This 1962 Buick Invicta Custom Estate Wagon Is The Perfect Cruiser And Slingshot Push Car

If you had yourself a dragster in the middle to late 1960s, chances are strong that you had a wagon like this one to drag the thing to the track and then push start it. Sure, some of the fancy tracks had roller starters but most of them had the dragsters getting push started on the “fire up road” or even up the track itself. With a 401ci 4bbl engine, you’d have plenty of power and with back seats that fold flat you’d have plenty of room to sleep after blowing your junk up for the weekend. It was pretty much the perfect vehicle for the up and coming fuel racer. That being said, when this wagon was bought in ’62 it was the apple of someone’s eye. Set the in the “upwardly mobile” Buick lineup, it was picked out with the snappy tartan interior and whoever made the engine pick made the right one. Top of the line 401 4-bbl power meant that merging with traffic was no problem and the occasional stop light grand prix was not out of the question, either.

This car has been restored but it still has the majority of the original pieces intact. The original chrome bumpers have been re-chromed, the car has been repainted, and the interior has been restored using NOS materials. It has been made to look better but the original stuff (as we read it) is all together. The early 1960s Buicks had great styling and their lines were crisp and really did a nice job and making large cars look a little smaller than they actually were. By the later 1960s the emphasis was seemingly on making things look ever larger but when you look at this car and see small things like the way the rear roofline pinches in and the small chrome spear heading down the rear quarter, you’ll see a car that looks midsize but is larger than that in reality.

If we bought this thing we would attach some of the emblems and then build a push plate for the front for a nostalgia dragster and beg someone to let us give their nitro burning junk a shove down course. Hell, we’d also try to hunt down land speed racers for the same job. The low end torque of that 401 would get stuff moving without any trouble.

One of our favorite things? Check out the interior photos on the eBay ad and look at the shift pattern. You Buick guys know it but the rest of you may learn something!
