There are times when we would prefer a tribute car over the “real” example of an iconic machine from Detroit and this is one of those times. Why? If we had the real version of this car we would want to keep it all perfect and we would not want to bolt radials on and go racing, etc. With this car, we’d be all over hammering it down the strip, taking it on cruises, and sticking a Gear Vendors in it to hit Drag Week in retro cool fashion.

This thing turns our crank for a few different reasons. The first is that the interior is awesome and totally old school as Dodge intended in 1965. The van seats, the lack of any sort of creature comforts, the spartan nature of the guts of the car make us smile. There’s the old Moroso tach and other retro touches that do really make this whole thing work. They also give a nod to the whole tribute angle of the car and the fact that no one is trying to pass this one off as the genuine article.

The car does have an A-833 four speed that was originally behind a hemi so that part of the equation is right and the engine is built off of a 1966 hemi block and uses 1964-65 race hemi cylinder heads. The cross ram intake is dated 1965 as well. The guts of the engine are pretty hardcore. The thing is 12.5:1 on the compression side, has NASCAR connecting rods (hmmmm), a rompin’ stompin’ camshaft and more.

The four inch exhaust likely bellows like the devil, the Dana 60 axle has 4:10 gears, and the immaculate paint? That’s actually a 2009 Jaguar color called Radiance red. According to the seller this thing has won awards for the paint quality. We do not doubt it. We’re in love. Are you?

Reedman’s in Langehorn Pa in 1965 had about 6 of these beasts lined up along the entry, we were there to buy mom a car. They were all the same color with the same interior in the pics. As a HotRod reading 16 year old it was the coolest thing ever.
