With 555ci, twin 80mm turbos, fuel injection, and whatever else is happening inside, this is a drag boat that either dreams or nightmares are made of. The performance when it is totally sorted will be the dream part but the nature of tuning a combo that no one ever has run on the water can certainly throw even the most seasoned racers for a curve. The Urban Hillbilly Action video guys recently caught up with this racer at an event and got footage of the boat ripping down the course along with a quick interview with the owner/driver.
We have no doubt that this thing is making a couple thousand horsepower and when you see the top end charge that he puts on his competition you’ll understand why asphalt drag race guys love to hate the racers running turbos. They may not make the huge power off the hit like a blower car but once they get themselves gathered up and rolling they are amazing and pretty much unstoppable if the tune and driver are right.
As we mentioned above, during the interview the racer tells the camera that this is the first EFI/turbo combo ever applied to this form of racing. That’s a pretty amazing thing and it sure proves that innovation and creativity are embraced in the world of water racing…or at least as long as the turbo boat does not start to run everyone over in competition.
There’s a zero point zero percent chance of me ever getting into a drag boat. They scare the daylights out of me when they just sit there on a jailer. Actually floating, bouncing, and ripping through the chop is far better suited to other people. This is one mean hunk of aquatic hot rod right here!
