Video: Tony Stewart Goes To Drag Racing School, Gets Alcohol License, What’s Next?

This is a great video, not just for the fact that we see one of the best stock car racers of all time hitting the drag strip at Bradenton Motorsports Park and getting an alcohol dragster license at Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School, but because it shows some behind the scenes fun as well.

As most people who follow NHRA drag racing know at this point, Tony Stewart and Leah Pruett have been together for the better part of a year now. Tony became a fixture at all the NHRA events and over time became more and more curious about the machines and the categories of competition. While we have no idea what his future plans are, we know that Tony wanted to have this experience at Frank Hawley’s school to get his feet wet behind the wheel.

We’re not going to hazard a guess at his next possible move in the sport (which may not be any move…but we’re not exactly leaning in that direction) but we think it is awesome that this guy who has won on dirt, in IndyCar, in NASCAR, and everywhere else he has competed, actually has enough interest in drag racing to pursue this thing, even to this point.

He’d put himself in pretty rare territory with the likes of John Andretti, Danny Ongais, and Art Malone as people who have attacked as many professional genres of American racing a drag racing would land Stewart in. Pretty awesome.

Really a stoned punk jumps out of his sprint car and gets run over on a race track.
Tony had no intention of running him over. It was an accident that broke Tonys heart.
Tony is a wonderful generous man who has done more for other people than you will ever know.
      Let it go.

I remember getting my time in the seat of a comp dragster, definitely one of the best schools you could ever go to. Changed to whole way I race now. Way to go Tony.

it would be interesting to see him work his way up …
about time he started going straight to the finish line instead of running around in circles looking for it
