Friday BOOM: Here’s A Massive Nitrous Explosion From The 2009 Shakedown At E-Town

This is Jeff Rodgers’ Executioner Pro Mod at the 2009 Shakedown at E-Town in Englishtown, New Jersey and at that race the car suffered one of the more massive nitrous pops we have ever seen. Watch in slow-mo, or hit your pause button to try and catch the moment, and you’ll see the nitrous fog out of the hood scoop, followed by flames out the exhaust, and then a massive A-bomb moment when the entire induction system parts ways with the rest of the engine. The intake manifold, the throttle bodies, all of it, KABOOM!

We have seen some good ones over the years and even recently like at the Atlanta NHRA race where Mike Castellana suffered a similar situation at the top end of the race track that ejected the top of the intake manifold into low Earth orbit. Nitrous is a fickle mistress. When it works, lordy it works. When things are out of order, she’s a destructive biatch. This video shows the destructive biatch side of the whole deal in pretty dramatic fashion.

I was sitting in the grandstand near the waterbox when the Mustang went boom!

The shockwave from the explosion was incredible!
