Watch 1979 NHRA Top Fuel Champ Rob Bruins And His Wife Get Stopped And Held At Gunpoint By Police Because Of A Typo

And the hits just keep on coming for highway patrol officers these days. This time we’re on the highway in Las Vegas, Nevada and we’re watching 1979 NHRA Top Fuel champion Rob Bruins and his wife get put through hell after a policemen running a “routine records check” on a 1962 Chevy screwed up the license plate number input and started a string of events that had two law abiding citizens treated like violent criminals. Yahoo news reports that a series of errors by the officer starting in with mis-entering the plate and then compounding when relaying the information incorrectly to a dispatcher. These errors made it look like Rob and his wife Beverly were driving a car that had been stolen in California and that’s when things went from Barney Fife bad to terrible.

The video below shows the whole scene from the couple being screamed out of their car at gun point, Bruins having to pull his shirt off on the side of the road, officers telling Beverly to say “goodbye” to her husband because he was going to jail, etc. It is pretty rough to watch, especially understanding that these were literally two people just cruising down the highway in their classic car before their world went completely to crap because a guy couldn’t (a) operate a keyboard and (b) read and listen properly.

As if it weren’t bad enough, Bruins was taken into custody and spent the night in jail before getting out the next day. The Bruins’ are suing the troopers and the Nevada State Highway Patrol. We’re 100% not anti-police around here and while this may be the second video in as many weeks that we have run showing something that isn’t exactly favorable to law enforcement officers, it happened and it is about as wild a story as we run around here.

Sadly this is no longer a rare occurrence. It’s been getting worse for at least 40 years now, I guess being as common sense ain’t so common any more, it’s not gonna slow up anytime soon.

OOPS, I hope there is a fair settlement for Mr. Bruins, there seems to be a lot of overly excited officers lately, I understand it is a dangerous job and appreciate their service to the public but over reactions like this are getting way TOO common!!!!

Part of the problem is there are a lot more criminals of course, but that shouldn’t change the rules.
In Boston cops in assault gear were yanking people out of their homes when they were looking for the Marathon bombers, nobody cared, the cops got awards.

    1. Sir Digby Chicken Ceasar

The thing is, there aren’t more criminals today. Crime rates throughout the country are currently at their lowest point in the last 45 years. (citation: http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm ). So the assertion that there are a lot more criminals is demonstrably false, making the increased militarization and more aggressive tactics of police forces in the U.S. even more unconscionable.

What a bunch of dumb asses…………..too many cops love to be in this kind of situation. A simple double check before drawing down on this couple could have prevented all of this nonsense and saved everybody a lot of embarrassment.

WTF! Sue the shit outta them. Im not anti cop, but that is ridicilous and with all the crime and shit that goes on out there the cops didnt think something wasn’t right? That looked like a segment ftom the movie “Super troopers”

As said on another forum, if Mrs. Bruins was not white this story would have had a very tragic ending when she reached for here crutches.
In the same situation I would have SCREAMED my wife has a broken leg constantly…..and got shot for it I’m sure.

This should have been handled on the side of the road in less than 30mins with a recheck of all numbers called over the radio and punched into the computer !

I have become more and more anti cop over the years and this isn’t helping there cause at all.

this is not good, but it does show how cops are real ass holes and not just now, always have been and just getting worse and finally getting caught with all the cameras out there today so there getting caught more today,,they have a above God attitude, and no matter if wrong or right they never get in trouble for there actions like normal people do, and to top it off and make things worse ,,they get to to home with Pay when they screw up, Where else but Police force in America does that happen????

    1. L-88 Freak

Yeah, the police operate no different than any other gang of thugs. Intimidation, highway robbery, covering for one another’s misdeeds, etc, etc. Disgusting shit. Our country is no longer the land of the FREE.
      Bunch of Krispy Kreme Krips.

spoken like someone who has never traveled abroad. Not excusing this joke with a gun’s behavior; but our cops are the best money can buy.

    3. Ted Seals

That is one lucky lady. Going for that crutch like that could have gotten her blown apart. These cops were not competent. My first thought was nice ’62. They were looking for a ’63.

    Definition of COMMON SENSE

: sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts

Looks like common sense isn’t a requirement for a law enforcement job

    Thanks for posting that Brian.
You don’t get much more of a honorable gentleman than Rob Bruins and to have these storm troopers almost kill him over that is certainly grounds for legal action. Even if the car was stolen what threat were they? Any idiot, badge or not should have been able to assess the situation.
Imagine if he had an open carry permit and came out with a holstered gun?

  10. Mark P

It is beyond me how this many officers are involved and none of them can control their emotions. Beyond the fact that you can’t get a police job if you score to high on the I.Q. test this is stupid. Who the hell hung weapons on these idiots hips.

“We’re 100% not anti-police around here” – bad clarity there, I’m not sure what you’re saying. For the record, I am 99% anti-police. Lately the USA has become an Orwellian police state where cops do whatever they want without fear of consequences. They literally shoot first and ask questions later. They shoot you reaching for your wallet then state they thought you were reaching for a weapon. Their drug sniffing dogs are trained to “alert” when they tell them to- justification to search anyone’s car and take anything, challenging you to prove the items they took weren’t destined to be used for drug purchases. Don’t believe me? Maybe the respectable journalists at The New Yorker might convince you. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2013/08/12/taken?currentPage=all

I could post many, many more articles but this one is my favorite.
    Good night.

Want a happy life? Stay away from this new generation of Police.

“If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—for ever”. – George Orwell 1984.

  13. Milkovich

I think the issue is larger than the police. We don’t treat each other with respect anymore, why should the police treat citizens like anything but cattle. We don’t’ build houses with front porches. We don’t even build sidewalks. We live in a nanny state where everyone knows what’s best for everyone else. The whole country has turned into Ralph Nader’s wet dream where you can’t leave your house without a helmet.

Pretty soon we’ll have self driving cars. We won’t have to do anything except eat and watch T.V.!

  14. JP

A doughnut eater’s tribute arrest to Barney Fife. Even worse the article is calling his 62 Chevrolet a 63.

  15. Richard Forelli

I hope they sue the crap out of the police dept and the officers personally. The cops are human and DO make Mistakes. They cops need to be held accountable for there mistakes and slow down a tad on doing some of the things they are doing these days. They have a job that is not the easiest but with all the training and methods one would think cops would think a little more these days with all the people in public with cameras recording the MISTAKES cops are making THEY need to be held accountable they are human and DO MAKE MISTAKES some which can be fatal.

  16. Joe

Ridiculous. I hope they win an ungodly obscene amount. And the writer who penned the lead in to this piece needs to hire a proofreader. That car is obviously not a 63 Chevy – Ray Charles could see it’s a 62.

  17. William day

Why is everybody so quick to attack the cops? It’s obvious to me and everyone watching this guy was a piece of shit and deserved to be locked up. Back off on anti-cop rhetoric, you’ll be needing them when your daughter gets kidnapped or someone breaks into your home. (Just pray they don’t mistake you for the intruder.)

    1. Douglas Manuel

William Day – you must be an idiot. Calling the guy a piece of shit when the f——g cops are the ones that F—-d up and pulled over and arrested the guy for a stolen car that wasn’t even stolen and actually did belong to the guy driving it. You sound like a cop lovin F–k boy punk ass Bitch.

  18. Douglas Manuel

Just another example of dick headed ASS HOLE cops. All cops should have to spend time in general population in prison for at least 30 days and be forced to be some big M F—-rs bitch cause that’s what they deserve. Maybe then they will learn to pay more f—— attention to what they doing instead of being a bunch of control freak dictators.

  19. arnold rodriguez

HA-HA… This happened to me up in Washington State (Spokane) ten years ago. It seems that the suspect was hispanic and I fit the description with no additional evidense. Stolen car..wrong . Xerox Company Car with legal permission to use for this trip.Did I get treated fairly..NO. I havent been back since, and never will. I would have been laughed out of court or cited with contempt if I made a stink. I was told to go back to California , I shut my mouth and left.

  20. Dave Love

dipshits, figures, looking for a 63, can’t tell the difference between a 63 and a 62 that should tell you something, not one of em spoke up and said “wait a sec, that’s a 62 not a 63 you idiots.” There has got to be one “car guy” in the bunch, right?
