Watch a Drag Racing Crash That Was Inches Away From Being A Nightmare Disaster

We sound dumber than usual when we tell you that this video depicts a “lucky” drag racing crash, but boiled down, that’s what it is. Filmed at Pacific Raceways during the Goodguys Nationals drag race, it shows a healthy 1938 Chevy coupe style drag car squaring off against an old school slingshot dragster. As the pair head down the strip, it is the 1938 Chevy that starts acting like a slingshot, veering all over the track and then heading cross track, completely out of control.

In our experience at the drags, we have never seen as close a call as this. Normally when a car crosses the track it is either ahead or behind the car it is racing, giving the other driver a clear race track or some time to react to the situation. As you will see here, as the ’38 Chevy comes across the strip it is doing so at the exact same moment that the dragster is passing by. Had that car been moving a little faster and a little farther into the dragster’s lane, this one had serious potential to be a fatal wreck. It would have (at best) cleaned off the front of the Chevy and sent the slingshot into a series of rolls. At worst it would have driven right into the driver’s door and we don’t even want to think about the results of that scene.

Yes, the Chevy ends up crashing in fairly gentle fashion, but it could have been a whole lot worse.

Press play below to see the craziest close call we’ve ever seen on the strip!
