One of the nicest looking and overall coolest drag cars on planet Earth is the Super Stock A/Hemi “King Kuda II” of Bucky Hess. Hess is a paint and body man and all of his cars have always been spectacular looking and running. Unfortunately, just a couple days back Hess got loose, crossed the track and ate a chunk of the wall at Maple Grove Raceway in Pennsylvania. The car basically got it square in the nose and Hess will have some work to do before the car is on the track again. In a selfish view, we’re kind of bummed because we were hoping to see it at the NHRA event in New Jersey next weekend.
The bad news is that he crashed, the good news is that he wasn’t completely smoked by the guy he was racing against. We’ve never see a nearer miss from a t-bone situation than this one. Even worse, it would have been a pair of hemi cars eating each other up in that event! You’ll see Hess pull a big wheelie which ends with the car landing awkwardly and starting an oscillation that turns into a loss of control, sending him across the track, on front of the other racer and into the wall.

Wow,I’ve been the guy in the right lane, but no where near as fast as those cars.
I have to ask why didn’t he stop? Thump to the pumpkin?
I follow Bucky and his son on instagram, the grill of the King Kuda II is already hanging up as a badge of honor
This is unfortunate for him, obviously dangerous and have been warned sorry specialist unfortunate happened.
Boy that was close. Not sure about the “Even worse, it would have been a pair of hemi cars eating each other up in that event!” comment. The other car wasn’t a SS/AH car, but I guess it could have had a Hemi.
I bet both of those car needed a good febreez’n after that…
Bucky Hess is a Hemi Cuda legend. Always like that he ran a 4 speed car.
Good luck on the rebuild!
Bucky doesn’t run a stick by the way. And the other car looked to be a stock elim. car (which can run super stock), maybe a 383 or 440 car.
As a car lover myself watching that near miss I have to say other than the damage from hitting the wall he was very lucky from getting hit by the rival he was racing against and the other guy must be a pretty good driver himself to have avoided that
I bet the proctologist made big money removing 2 seat covers… Thank goodness replaceable metal is all that got bent up.
