Watch Dan Stevenson’s Pro Mod Crash From The Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals!

We’ve got to give major props to the NHRA’s social media department as they have been cranking out some cool highlight videos of the insane weekend we have been having here in Atlanta. We showed you Antron Brown’s nasty wreck on Friday, multiple funny car explosions from yesterday, and now they have posted footage of pro mod racer Dan Stevenson’s wild pro mod ride in his 2013 Camaro. Stevenson’s car starts this lap as one of the more beautiful, late model pro mods in the country and it ends as pretty smashed up piece but it certainly was not as bad as it could have been. The Stevenson managed to avoid any real direct center-punch style hits  and instead suffered a series of glancing blows as the car headed down the track, careening off the walls. It is Lohnes’s voice you hear on the call.

The truly great thing about this pair is that Steven Whiteley who was opposing Stevenson shook the tires and shut down early. This was great because had that not happened, Stevenson would have completely collected Whiteley up when he crossed the center line and we would have ad a high speed two car wreck. Adding that element to this would have made it very complicated for safety officials and obviously the risk of another driver getting hurt rises exponentially to boot. We’re sure Whiteley was never so happy to have an early shut off lap as he was in this situation.

Stevenson was in good spirits after the wreck and vowed to fix the car and come back swinging. We look forward to seeing him out on tour again soon!

Am I the only one in light of all this weekends pretty damn serious accidents getting the creepy and disturbing feeling another death in drag racing is all but imminent this season ?

With then the NHRA taking another series of ludicrous steps in the futile attempt to make a dangerous sport [ all motor racing ] safe ?

Truly …. I hope and pray I am wrong . But I’m not so sure I am

I totaly agree Slinger-lower the ci those monsters run -how many 500 ci motors can you buy in a car? I would like to see a realistic 360 ci motor ran in the pro stock and fuel cars. Pro mods realy dont need 800 ci motors to soil my scivies! I walked the track in Norwalk and walked right out of my shoes and just about lost the skin on my bare feet.

No matter what the sanctioning bodies do , as long as cubic dollars are around , speeds / et’s always creep back too where they were before. Racers will always find a way to go faster.
