Watch Danny Black’s Incredible 600ft Wheelstand From The 2007 US Nationals – Greatest Ever?

It is nearly impossible to quantify something as the “greatest ever” at the most prestigious drag race in the world, but Danny Black’s legendary wheel stand at the 2007 NHRA US Nationals has to be right near the top of the pile when it comes to such things. You will see Black launch off in his stock eliminator 1971 Demon and the car immediately powers into a wheelie. This is not too crazy a thing when talking about stock but when the ‘stand lasted for 600 feet or more, it goes from cool to OH MY SWEET MOTHER OF ACCELERATION WHEN WILL IT END?!

The video quality is not the greatest, but pixel count aside it is framed perfectly and you have to be wondering what the driver in the other lane was thinking as he looked over to see air where a car sounded like it should have been. The fact that Black’s car tracked so straight and true is pretty wild as it is a rare occurrence for a machine like this to do so. Eventually he had to lift because the seat of the pants direction-o-meter was telling him that the 1971 Demon was gradually moving left and the center line was coming but this is a true thing of beauty the likes of which could compete at the Byron Dragway World Power Wheelstanding championships. Watch and enjoy this fantastic two wheeled trip to the eighth mile!
