The hunt for the 7-second zone in stock eliminator is not just on, it is like nuclear war out there and last weekend the battle zone was Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pennsylvania. The players were primarily Chris Holbrook and David Barton but virtually all of the nation’s quickest late model stockers were there trying to throw down in the cool, fall Pennsylvania conditions. Holbrook went an 8.10 and the place went nuts. Later on Barton laid down the run you will see below to seal himself as the current leader this war to the 7s.

Remember, folks at the US Nationals like a month ago Chris Holbrook went in the low 8.20s and THAT was the quickest run of all time up to that point for a legal NHRA stock eliminator car. It was early in the 2016 season at the NHRA Gator Nationals that the potential of the Gary Wolkowitz owned and David Barton driven machine exposed itself and caused some jaws to hit the table. That was when the car was running in the 8.30s which seems like a half an hour ago compared to what it is doing now.

So what are they doing? Well, they are not running around giving away their tune up that is for sure but we can tell you that their car leaves like virtually no other COPO in the world. The one thing we have seen very high horsepower COPOs do a lot of is spin the tires on the hit of the throttle. Virtually none of them carry the beautiful arching wheelies that this one does. The car is set on kill and we think it is only a matter of time before they send it into the 7s. When and where? Who knows but there’s still a fair bit of racing going on in places that are cool and at sea level.

That being said…Chris Holbrook is out there as well and he’s got what amounts to an equivalent weapon. We’re thinking that both Chevrolet and Ford want to be the first so perhaps there is some “factory encouragement” to get the job done.
