When it comes to popular drag racing stuff these days, the Southeast Gassers are among the top draws in the country. The group founded by Quain Stott and stacked up with awesome period correct gassers from the golden age of the sport blows the doors off of every strip they pull into. Why? The cars are spectacular, the racing is tight, and the drivers understand that the people are there to have a good time and be entertained. That means big burnouts, wheelies, and some showmanship that has generally disappeared from other parts of the sport.
One of the guys who really gets the whole program is Donovan Stott. The son of Mitch Stott (Quain’s brother and an all-time great door slammer drag racer) and a kid who bleeds gasoline hauls his White Trash Anglia to the track on the back of an old flatbed and he drives that little car like the heroes back in the day. The hammer is down, the gears are ripped, and being sideways is a regular part of the program.
All of this leads us to the videos below which were shot at Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip in Ringgold, Georgia. In them you will see a couple angles of an amazing save that Stott made when his little car decided that it wanted to cross the race track at speed. Yes, Stott touches the wall but when you see what he did to keep the car from being destroyed and to keep it away from Greg Porter in the Night Stalker you’ll be as impressed as we were when we saw it.
If you have to wonder why people like this series, these cars, and the drivers in them, look no further than these videos. The packed house collectively gasped and then went nuts when Donovan Stott saved his own bacon on the strip.
If the only damage is the fender, keep on racing! Wish they would come up in Galot Motorsports Park.
They’ll be at North Myrtle Beach dragstrip in October. I’m going……they put on a great show!
We will be in Clay city Ky September 10th
Myrtle beach Oct 15th,
Greer SC November 5th,
hope to see you at Myrtle Beach spread the word.
Contact Quain Stott. That is not too far away
I give Stevie Fast save of the century, but this is pretty close. Great driving.
