The World Power Wheelstanding Championships was born from the fertile brain of my pal Ron Leek. Over the years, that contest has gone from a local curiosity to a national deal with guys showing up and attempting to win tens of thousands of dollars for standing their junk up on the back wheels longer than anyone else. There are literally people who build cars strictly for the purpose of dragging them to Byron, Illinois and bending them up in an attempt to win the cash. We’re not sure where the guy in this video was from but he was doing one hell of a job with his Mustang, carrying the front wheels nearly through the eighth mile traps with no bars and only the pedals on the floor for assistance.
Things got weird for him after a while, as they often do and the car went from two wheels on the track to one wheel on the track to the driver’s door on the track and then four wheels on the track. We’re not kidding, this was no easy flight but it at least ended up on the wheels with the guy being able to open his own door and get out of the car. Urban Hillbilly Action Video has opened their vault and has been posting some amazing stuff form their colorful and awesome history and this video is part of that release.
The driver was OK and the Mustang wasn’t all that bent up…right? For the ability to say, “Yeah, that’s ME!” when watching this video, we think that the dude paid a pretty small price. An eighth mile wheelstand with no bars? That’s the ride of a lifetime!
