Charles Wickam sent us the tip on this video which is one of the few crash videos that literally shocked us when we watched it. There’s nothing graphic or gory about this video but when you see how hard the Mustang hits the wall at the top end of the track at Houston Motorsports Park, you’ll be shocked as well. The fact that the driver emerged from this complete catastrophe with a punctured lung and a few broken ribs is both miraculous, and a testament to the quality of work his chassis builder did. As you will see, things start to go wrong from the get go for the driver who wrecks but his foot was glued to the floorboard right to the end.

The Mustang pulls a wheelie on the hit of the throttle, carrying the front end out past the 60-foot clocks and traveling to the left the whole time that the nose is in the air. The car lands when it is nearly on the center line. The driver sets to work correcting the car’s path and does so with his foot glued to the floor. As you will see, once the car gets into the “marbles” in the center of the track and really gets loose, there is virtually nothing the driver can do to get control back. We’re not sure if the car starts leaking stuff or if the “smoke” we see is actually dust and debris from the center of the track being kicked up.

Finally, when the guy seems to have the car back in his correct lane, it makes a move to the left and then seems to accelerate all the way across the course before hitting the wall with indescribable force. This is the part that literally shocked us. When you see just how hard this hit is, you’d swear that the driver wouldn’t have made it out, especially in a car that is not a full tube piece, but he did. There’s video of the wreck and then close up video of the scene and the car after it was mashed. Wait until you see what this thing did to a big, honking, concrete wall. It is UGLY.
