Well this is just brutally awesome! In this video you will see racer Steve Bell wind up his COPO Camaro, drop the hammer and rip the shift lever to a seven second elapsed time. While this video says that the car is the first COPO in the 7s there is video showing ATI’s JC Beattie running in the 7.90s last season so while this may not be the very first 7-second COPO ever, it is one of two at the most that have competed in some sort of legal trim and actually made it into the 7s. We’ve got the video of Beattie’s run at the bottom of the page for you to check out as well.
The 2016 season will be highly awesome to watch when we’re talking about the COPO, Cobra Jet, and Drag Pack cars because there have been a multitude of developments made with all of them. The Mustang is using a new body style, the Camaro body/chassis is brand new, and the Drag Packs have a blown option for the very first time in their history. This may be one of the first seven second passes made but it certainly isn’t going to be one of the last.
The new format of the Factory Stock Showdown will be exciting as well being that the NHRA has developed a quick eight format for the cars to compete in along with the normal fisticuffs of class eliminations. Stay tuned, this is going to be spectacular!
Congrats to Stephen Bell. First COPO Camaro in the 7’s, 7.956 @ 170.49!!Product of Stanfield Racing. #Superstock #NHRA #COPO

the may have wanted to say that it was the first stick COPO, the other video looks (smooth down the groove) and sounds (only heard 2 gear changes I think) like a slushbox COPO
I would guess too with the ATI sponsorship!
ha, right duh!! that’s what I get for watching videos on my cell phone without my glasses on
Yeah ATI Copo wasn’t at legal weight
nice working machine, love the angles
Super Dave…
Hey Jerry z , whether or not it was the first or second COPO in the sevens I understand the ATI copo was the first one I know both drivers, Stephen I know personally it was far from a ratty run Steven Bell is one of the smoothest most particular drivers that I know. Also I know the car and Mike Stanfield who tunes it.
Wouldn’t really care if it was 1st, 2nd, or 10th. The thought of a Super Stock going into the 7’s is just crazy!
