The “Deathproof” Dodge Challenger Has Hit eBay, And Looks As Rough And Ready As Ever!

The “Deathproof” Dodge Challenger Has Hit eBay, And Looks As Rough And Ready As Ever!

When people mention Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 car-and-girl flick “Deathproof”, the first car that comes to mind is the Chevrolet Nova sporting the skull on the hood and Texas plates that read the same as the ones on Frank Bullitt’s 1967 Mustang. It’s a badass piece, don’t get us wrong, but it is the final car chase between the ladies in the Vanishing Point-tribute 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Six Pack and the murdered-out Dukes of Hazzard tribute 1969 Dodge Charger wearing the plates of the Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry Charger. In the end, the two Mopars are barely-there scraps of their former selves, but if you think there was only one of each car on set, you’d be mistaken.

This particular car is not a 1970. According to the seller, the fender tag decodes as a well-optioned 1971 triple-gold with black roof big-block car. At least the big block, a 383 in this case, is still present and accounted for. The rest of the car still looks like a beaten up Vanishing Point car, complete with the added-on window frames on the doors that allowed stuntwoman Zöe Bell to play “Ship’s Mast” with the belts. Currently, the car is in Queensland, Australia, where it has resided since 2007, but part of the purchase price goes toward shipping the Challenger to Los Angeles…anything after that is on the potential buyer.

Movie cars and Mopar E-bodies both have strange values, usually over-inflated. Were pretty certain that for the money that is being asked, that someone will snap this one up.

    Just call me Kowalski!

But kindly park those bulldozers somewhere else as I’m hauling coals on a highway near you and I ain’t about to stop!

Was that a “Big Trouble In Little China” quote? Sounds like something old Jack Burton would say.

One of the three Nova’s built for the movie survived. It is in the hands of Buddy Joe Hooker, the stunt driver. I met him and his car at Bob’s Big Boy in Toluca Lake, CA one Friday night. He was so nice and let me do everything but drive the car. It still has the full and nutty cage, but no tractor seat and plexiglass to separate the driver from the soon to be dead passenger.

Restore it to its original glory, or save it as a piece of B movie history? Quite the conundrum.

I always wondered what happened to the Challenger after the movie, it needs t be brought back to the states and left as is other than repairing the wiring.

Oh please some collector buy this and restore it original. OMG the old car movies of the 70’s mentioned in this article too. Great movie memories.
