Ahhhhh yes, as we continue on with the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing season Atlanta Dragway looms large on the horizon. That’s where we are racing this year as one of the tour’s true legacy events comes into focus. Atlanta is a big one on the NHRA tour every year because it is always fast and it is the hometown of Coca Cola the primary sponsor that the NHRA has worked with for years now. Through different brands, drag racing has been used to promote products that Coca Cola makes from energy and sports drinks to their Mello Yello brand as mentioned above these days.
What can racers expect at Atlanta? A lot of what they got in 1988. The air is usually pretty soupy and the crowds are usually strong. There is one significant difference this year in the fact that the E3 Spark Plugs series moved their Atlanta race to a different track. They have a habit of moving stuff around every few years and this year it was taking the tour away from Atlanta and down the road a little in the season. The teams were trying to avoid too many “back to back to back” weekends and this was one way to do it.
Don Garlits, Steve Evans, and Paul Page bring you all the action and intensity from the 1988 NHRA Southern Nationals here!

Going to miss racing in Atlanta this year,
