Gators Week: Watch The 1989 NHRA Gatornationals – Upset City In The Sunshine State!

It is officially Gators Week! The monstrous 2019 Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals will kick off this Thursday at Gainesville Raceway in Florida. It has been happening there since 1969 and we have been bringing you the history now for a week or two and we’re going to ramp it up as we head ever closer to firing up the heavy iron late this week.

The 1989 race was awesome because there were loads of upsets, not just in the early rounds, in the later ones as well. Guys like Dennis Forcelle and Art Hendey upset the apple cart of the more experienced and highly favored racers they ran up against and that’s what we love most about drag racing. You literally cannot script this stuff.

As John Force chases his 150th career victory, it was Bob Glidden chasing his 70th in 1989. What’s amazing to think about is that when Glidden was ripping them to shreds in pro stock and racking up the wins, no one ever thought someone would catch his total, let alone blow it up like a howitzer shell as Force has done.

This was a great race and this is an awesome show with plenty of familiar faces and voices to take you back in time. Enjoy!
