The last time we showed you video of the Opala Metal drag race machine from Brazil it was nearly headed into the jungle after running down a pretty wild eighth mile strip. That same car on a prepared, legit, quarter mile strip recently ran 7.988/192 mph with its turbocharged six banger, 275 Mickey Thompson drag radials, and stick! This video shows that historic run and by virtue of the response, it was a big deal to crack through the eight second zone. We are not sure we have ever seen both the crew of the winning car and the crew of the losing effort in full celebration a the same time before. This whole place is bedlam when the board lights up.

Maybe the best part of the run is how uneventful it is. The car leaves pretty easy and then the power is brought on harder as the machine heads down the track. The in car video (at about 3:00) shows this the best. As the driver makes his shifts, you will see how hard the car pulls in the upper gears when the motor is loaded down. Knowing the track, the driver is very quick to have the parachutes out in order to stop in time.

We don’t care who you are, what continent you live on, or what type of car you like the best, this thing is bad ass. This is not to be demeaning to the track but to give the team even more credit, but the track likely did not have the “Traction Twins” on it preparing for the weekend, right? It looks decent enough and it sure works for the guys who want to show up and race hard. The Opala Metal proved that! A huge tip of the BangShift cap to the crew and driver of that car. Big time stuff happening down there in Brazil with this sport.
