Big Boy: Watch The Build Of A Massive 460ci Small Block Ford – All The Cubes, None Of The Girth

Big blocks are awesome but like everything else, they have their drawbacks. For starters, they may be great for displacement but they are not so great for weight. That can be a big concern for guys who are trying to keep things as light as possible. Well that’s why we’re going to watch the build of a massive 460ci small block Ford in this video. The owner of the engine is shoving it into a Fox Mustang and didn’t want an iron giant weighing the nose of his hot rod down. This thing is a beast.

Using a Dart SHP block, Trick Flow heads, a COMP camshaft, custom pistons, all the rod they could slam into the thing and a crank with an arm of well over 4″, this sucker is not messing around.

The video is great because in typical Horsepower Monster fashion, we see the parts, the pieces, the people, and the process that go into making the finished product.

The dyno testing section of the video is great as well because the engine is run with two different tops on the Holley intake. First it is run with dual thottle bodies atop the engine and secondly it is run with a front loading single throttle body top. We’re not telling you which one wins, but this thing makes monster power. Over 660hp on pump gas and nearly 600 lb-ft of torque through large sections of its usable power band. The Mustang that this thing is landing in will legitimately fly!

Very cool build. Reminds me of big inch (600) low deck BB Chev builds. Better make sure you have a really good, experienced engine builder tackle a build like this. There doesn’t appear to be a lot of room for error with the piston pin running up into the oil ring and the piston skirts extending way out the bottom of the cylinders. I would drop an engine like this into a classic 1969-70 Mustang fastback restomod in a heartbeat!
