I can’t say I have ever been a participant in an “official” burnout contest. I (like all of you) have done my fair share of tire killing shuttle launches but it has never been with the intention of seeking fame, fortune, or profit. We’re not sure if the guy in this video stood to make a few bucks by winning this burnout contest but unless the prize was enormous he’s coming out a loser even if he wins. See, about 30-seconds into his tire shredding burnout, the driver’s side rear tire expires and folds the rear quarter up in such a way as we have literally never seen before.
When the tire failed it must have come up like hell’s conveyor belt and just bludgeoned the daylights out of the quarter panel. The damage literally starts at the corner of the door and extends all the way to the bumper. That thing was officially killed and killed hard. As is normally the case at these things, you can’t really tell what’s going on until the smoke clears and since the driver as really giving it the oats, there was a bunch of smoke. The crowd’s reaction quickly turns from adulation to horror when they see the car. Ouch!
The driver seems to be keeping a smile on his face but we’re guessing that’s because he only other expression he could show would be inconsolable sobbing. The car looks to be in primer. Think it was due into the paint shop soon? Maybe this dude is a body guy because if he’s not, someone will be making a pile of cash fixing this car.
