We have showed you more than a couple videos from Asia that illustrate how hardcore the drag racing/hot rodding scene is in places like Thailand. In fact, this video below comes from Thailand and in it you’ll see a diesel powered drag truck on a chassis dyno. The little information we were able to get about the video essentially says that the thing makes 750hp and 1450 lb/ft of torque on the rollers. We have not been able to figure out what engine combo it has but judging by the twin exhaust outlets and the twin turbos on top, we’re thinking that it may be a V8. Or maybe it isn’t. The sound of air wooshing overwhelms the exhaust note during the pull so our ears were no help either. Do you have any ideas?
While diesel engines are making more and more inroads into performance ares we normally reserve for gasoline or alky burners, we’re still not on the level with these guys below. That’s not taking anything away from the American efforts at the strip and on the street but it is a recognition that the diesel engine is the default option for most of the people in the parts of the world when this was filmed so they have been hot rodding them at high levels for a lot of years. We know that the “little” Duramax engine that is used in GM and Isuzu trucks in Thailand can be a killer. Maybe this is one of those??
So many questions and so much soot. What do you think?
My best guess is the Isuzu/Duramax 4HK style engine. 5.2 ltr turbocharged with the wick turned way up. It is possible that it’s the smaller J series Isuzu, it looks pretty compact in there. Regardless it’s pretty BA, and totally BS approved.
Doubt it’s a V8 with both turbos on one side. It says 5000cc in the title. That’d be huge for a four banger so likely a six.
Isuzu dmax 3000. look it up on YouTube the truck has racee here in the States and has Done very low 8s.
