We’ve shown you a few different types of engines being Spintron tested over the years here at BangShift but none of those engines was a bad ass Don Schumacher top fuel hemi! The DSR guys, including Brad Mason, Mark Oswald, and Brian Corradi (who worked there at the time) went to Trend Performance Products in Michigan to electronically run one of their engines. Why do this? There are a multitude of reasons that range from valve train study (the original reason why the Spintron was invented int he first place), oiling system evaluation, testing rotating assembly performance, etc.
In this video we see and more importantly hear the engine getting run up to an unknown but very healthy RPM. The engine has windowed valve covers on it, a plexiglass valley cover, and a laser tracker aimed into the engine that helps to give some amazingly finite ability to track valve train flex and movement under RPM. Neat stuff and we have never seen a big hemi like this getting spun up!
The last thing we will say is that few people understand how much work continues to go into refining and improving these engine combinations in nitro cars. Even with the massive power that they make, hot rodding is still alive and well at this level. These guys are proof.
