The Mack E6 285hp engine is not exactly one that lives in diesel powered fantasy land. It was a yeoman engine that was used in trucks that pretty much everyone who ever piloted would claim were underpowered. This was a 2-valve engine that was designed to lug stuff around and not set speed records. There were four valve versions of this engine that made like 350hp but that’s not what we’re dealing with when it comes to the amazing truck shown in the video below. This Mack is drag racing in Puerto Rico where diesel performance is something that is as popular as anything else. Buses that haul ass, big trucks that haul ass, it is all happening there.
This is claimed to be the quickest E6 285hp based Mack in the world. Obviously this engine is making LOTS more than the advertised horsepower. What has been done? We have no idea. The truck probably weighs half of what it did from the factory. Does it have a four valve head on it? We know it has a massively hot rodded fuel system, what sounds like an automatic transmission, and likely compound turbos.
Whatever has been done, this is the type of hot rodding that we love. Taking a thing that no one really liked and making it into a monster. What’s better than that, right? We’re thinking that we need to get to Puerto Rico and take in some of this madness for ourselves.
