What’s that? You aren’t familiar with a “Brogie” roadster? No worries as the Brogie isn’t so much attached to a car company as it is a single guy who built these roadster style drag race cars that have become wildly popular in classes like super gas. Warren Brogie was a southern California chassis builder who became famous in the world of drag racing for his roadsters. They were light (about 2,000lbs with a big block in them and 1,800 with a small block), stiff, and dead nuts consistent on the race track assuming that the engine tuner knew what he was doing. Brogie built lots of these cars and they are still very popular and active at strips all over the country today. Heck, all over the country is selling it short. All over the world is the ticket as Karen Hay, the quickest and fastest woman in New Zealand drag racing history drives one outfitted with a twin turbocharged big block engine and she has punched the car down into the six second range, making it the quickest Brogie roadster in the world.

We got tipped off to the car by Kevin Shaw who is a drag racing journalist from New Zealand and he also sent along a link to the video clip below which is fantastic because it shows the little roadster dicing up the quarter mile, making six second runs and sounding absolutely fantastic in the process. While this may be loads more power than Brogie had ever planned to have a car subject to, we’re thinking that he’s be happy to hear that Karen has been having such fun with the car and success as well. According to Kevin Shaw who told us about this machine, the engine was built by Karen’s dad and that as of now, they have only been using about 70% of the engine’s available power to be safe. We’re excited to hear and see what it does on full kill.
