We love those round numbers in drag racing. Breaking a performance barrier is always cool but never so cool as to when it is through the bottom of one time increment and into the next. There’s nothing overtly special about seeing a 4.00 on a scoreboard as opposed to a 3.99 but when a car manages to do something of that nature the first time, it always makes big news. The hours, months, and years of sweat and evolution. The hard work, the guesses, the blown up parts, and the anguish all come flooding out when these moments occur. Ziff Hudson has been chasing one of the most amazing performance barriers in drag racing history and he still stands as the odds on favorite to be the first person to earn a 3-second time slip on a 275 tire but the deal is not done yet and this video tells the story.
Recently, Hudson was at Orlando Speedworld Dragway and he was there with the guns loaded and his Mustang tuned to the hilt. Hudson reeled off a series of runs leading up to a dramatic 4.006 effort that resulted in the car erupting into flames at the top end. Like we said, this ain’t easy.
You’ll dig this video if you are a fan of small tire drag racing or if you are a fan of highly focused, professional level efforts to achieve a goal.
Ugh…that bed music. Enough already.
