Wow! Byron Dragway Seeking New Ownership – Historic Track Home Of Many Great Events

The house that Ron Leek built is seeking new ownership. Byron Dragway in Byron, Illinois is on the market. The track has been open for more than half a century and has been a hotbed of innovation and creativity in the sport of drag racing. Ron Leek took the track to prominence as an early champion of bracket racing in the 1970s when class racing fell on hard times. Through the years he has created events like the World Power Wheelsanding Championship which are signatures of the track’s attitude.

Races like the Meltdown Drags, Hot Rod Drag Week, and a host of others are held at the place every year. We hope like hell that someone with a love of the sport and a keen sense of Byron’s place in the world of drag racing gets hold of this venue. Why? Because that will be some insurance that things will keep hopping at the drag plant for years to come. Check out the release below –

Byron Dragway Seeking New Ownership

Byron, Illinois (August 4, 2017) – Officials at Byron Dragway announced today that the popular racing venue is seeking new ownership.
This is an exciting opportunity to take an established motorsports venue into the future.  Byron Dragway is fortunate to have been under stable and consistent ownership for decades, allowing the venue to not only establish but truly develop many successful events and racing programs.  This is a turn key motorsports venue that presents many opportunities for long term growth, expansion and diversification.
Byron Dragway is a quarter-mile NHRA Member Track that opened July 4, 1964.  The nearly 200-acre facility is located in Byron, Illinois – approximately 45 miles west of the greater Chicagoland area.  An estimated 13.2-million residents live within a 100-mile radius of Byron.
Along with weekly races scheduled from April to mid-November, Byron Dragway hosts many long running special events.  All-time record attendance numbers have been achieved in 2017.
The well-maintained facility has benefitted from continual reinvestment.  Recent improvements and equipment upgrades include a completely renovated tower that houses race control, a private suite, and storage (2015).  The starting line and water box concrete has been replaced (2015).  The CompuLink Timing System was fully re-calibrated by CompuLink in May and now includes 1,000’ MPH (934’) and TruStart.  The Dragway Diner concession stand was also remodeled this year.  Track comes complete with all equipment for operation.
Qualified serious inquiries only may contact Ronald Pifkin at 815-234-5400.
