One of our BangShifty pals told us that we should scan the Insurance Auto Auctions Inc website because they have all kinds of stuff for sale and he was right, they do. From high end exotics that have been in the hands of the talentless to machines like the 1966 Plymouth Satellite we found below every one of the cars on the website has an interesting story as to how it got there. In the case of the thing has a 426 hemi with dual quads, seemingly decent paint, and no outward signs of it being anything but a project car that someone was working on.
It took us more than a few minutes to figure out what this Mopar was “in” for and it was one photo that told us the story. As you scroll down you’ll be asking the same questions we were but then you’ll come to the same conclusion when you reach the photo of the dash that shows it melted like a shrinky dink. There’s some other tell tale interior damage on the car that makes us think that it was either an interior electrical fire or perhaps the thing was inside a building that burned and the heat was so intense that it melted the plastic. Otherwise this is a pretty good looking car and that engine is worth a pile of dough.
Even if the hemi needs to come apart to be checked, it seems like this thing will be a great buy for the dedicated Mopar enthusiast who wants a hemi car to build for himself. Hell, it is possible that this thing is a four speed car because in the photos we do not see a column lever but it could also be a floor shifted automatic as well. Still, this seems like a wild thing to see in a salvage auction and someone is going to get a deal…or they were before we blew their cover!

Definitely looks to have been in a fire. You will probably end up having to buy another parts car to fix it,, A Ca DMV reg plate makes it’s origin suspect… Was it a true hemi car ??? Or just a money pit ?
stolen/recovered. thieves burn whatever they don’t need to erase finger prints…
I had a 67 Hemi GTX that suffered an ignition switch failure. It fried a bunch of the wiring harness under the hood. Glad it didn’t turn out like this!
It looks like a fire caused by some clown using a welding torch too near the interior and who was too lazy to remove it. The rest of the car looks fine – but good luck on finding the parts to complete it!
to the individual who said ” old school ” in my opinion , an insulting manner …… ” some things just get meaner as they get older ” ….
