There are lots of ways to gauge the dedication of racers. You can look at how many hours they spend slaving in the shop. You can pay attention to how little sleep they guy because of their addiction to the sport, or you can look one in the eye and tell him to sit under the hood of a moving car and work the throttle as someone else sits inside and steers as is the case in this video. If that person says yes, you either have a dedicated racer on your hands or someone clearly suffering from mental problems. The jury is still out on the guy in the video.
This footage is from the 1991 Pirelli Classic Rally. We only know that because it was on the video description. We know little else about the event but we can tell you that this team finished in a vintage Alfa Giulietta Sprint 1300 because of the dedication that the guy under the hood shows in the video. This isn’t some lame ass, idle down the road deal. No way, this is full throttle, hard braking, all the way onto the gas on the final straight, etc. The intensity of the guy latched onto the car like a Spider Monkey makes the video even better, as does the tire squealing, kinds of sideways look at the last corner of the race as the team heads for the checker.
Go ahead and thrash all night, sleep outside, live on stale crackers and beer for a week, but you’re nothing until you get under the hood of a car the size of the computer I am typing this on and get in there with your hands to run the gas while someone else drives. Once you do that, you’ll be legit in Mario’s eyes.

Armed only with a handy corkscrew, the co-driver endured many miles of hideous agony before a well-aimed stab to the coil ended his ordeal.
Apparently he was just about to get into the car when it started making strange growling noises, opened its hood and made off with him.
The driver was left standing whilst he cried tears of helpless laughter – what a heartless rat!
