Is This Diesel Done Right? A 1930 Model A With Cummins Power Is Up For Grabs

Is This Diesel Done Right? A 1930 Model A With Cummins Power Is Up For Grabs

There are few topics these days that divide hot rodders like that of the role of diesel engines. We seem to have completely leapt over the old carb vs EFI debate that raged on for years now that EFI systems have plummeted in price. We’re not saying we’re picking a side there but the fact remains that you could not get on the internet for a stretch in time without being beaten over the head with that junk. Now it is diesels.

Some guys love the because they are different, they can be hot rodded on the cheap to make massive power, they are as reliable as anything else in the world, and they are not LS engines. Many people hate them because they dislike the sound, they dislike when guys make them smoke like a locomotive, and they don’t like the fact that they are often big, heavy, and awkward to package in stuff outside of trucks. Oh, and that’s another one. High performance diesels in this country are still largely seen as truck engines because that’s all are offered in.

This 1930 Model A is a professionally built car that strikes an interesting balance, or at least more of a balance than we normally see in builds like this. Yes, there are elements like the wrought iron looking side mirrors, the rusty body, the engine’s stack exhaust, the grill shell from an old truck, the Kenworth air cleaner, the weirdo big shifter inside, and some other stuff that are not 100% our taste but the overall package is cool and clean to us.

This car likely gets stupid good fuel economy and is fun as hell to drive, all while sounding like a Peterbilt heading down the road. Getting the exhaust stack situation handled, getting some of the goth looking stuff off of the thing and adding a coat of paint would make this BangShifty goodness all over the place…or would it. You tell us!

To each their own.I know what I like . And others may not like what I own. I do not build something to please others. If the guy that had it built likes it ,cool. If the guy that buys it likes it cool . And who cares if someone else does not like it. Come on we have all been to car shows. That’s what makes them great “lets go see whats new” meaning what has someone built that is different .This is cool. but Model A’s with diesels are getting to be the new model A with a SBC. But the owner shouldn’t give a rats ass about my our your opinion

That is badass, super sweet. Don\’t care about others negative opinions either, I build what I like also.

I have no problem with the location given it is a foot above the cab, but I\’d rather see the bevel cut the opposite way or straight.
