We all have our soft spots, right? Mine happens to include 1961/62 fuel injected, four speed, black Corvettes with red interiors. I ran across this car for sale on eBay and had to stop to check it out. Yeah, it is about $100,000 but holy cow is it cool. For whatever reason, these black steel wheel/poverty cap cars just get me right in the feels. When this car was new in 1961 it would have been just about the baddest factory car a guy could have gotten his hands on back then.
The T-10 four speed, the 315hp 283 engine that was showing the seemingly limitless potential of the small block Chevy to a power hungry public, the big brake package, and tuxedo black paint meant that this car was built to run both from stoplight to stoplight and around corners. One of the other reasons I dig the 1961 and 1962 models is the fact that they were at the tail end of the first generation cars and that always means that they were the best engineered of the bunch and all of the accumulated knowledge of nearly a decade before had been applied to their designs and chassis.
One of the funny things about these cars is how a little tire does them a lot of good. This car is sitting on 215-series rubber at the corners and it looks pretty tough as compared to how it would have looked with the really, really skinny stock stuff. It does not have a pro touring look but a more confident and slightly more beefy stance. Also, let the record show that I would never take the roof off of this car. I think the way these things look best is with the top on.
If you wanted to be a bad man in 1961, this was the car you bought. No, it can’t really stand up to today’s performance cars but who cares. The experience of being in that red interior with the school bus wheel would be great.
I also am a large fan of 61-62 Corvettes, they just look right (are). This is big dollar , hope whoever gets it drives it.
’62 was the last year they made a Corvette, right?
This is the best ever Vette I have seen!
Black paint transforms it into an evil street demon and it is absolutely faultless.
WHO ARE YOU, AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH GEORDIE?!?!?!
