There are certain things that happen in racing which are so well designed and so well thought out that the make as much sense as 1+1=2. One of those things is Formula Vee. The open wheel racing class which was formed in the early 1960s featured relatively cheap chassis and certainly cheap engines, giving thousands of aspiring race car drivers across America the chance to live out their open wheel racing dreams. VW was actually behind the making of this film which acts as a vehicle to characterize participation as something that anyone could get involved with. Listen, when the first guy we see is a UPS driver getting after it, you know what the main goal of this film was.
There are elements of family participation and highlights of racing action, cars sliding, crashing, and all the kinds of things that make racing exciting.
It is kind of weird that we have not seen the rise of a modern version of Formula Vee. Yes, there are showroom stock classes, Spec Miata, and things of that nature, but is there a real budget open wheel class outside of the one that has existed for 40+ years at this point?
It sure seems that there should be!
