We often talk about the “performance” cars of the 1970s and kind of mock them for what they were. The thing is that some of them were actually pretty decent cars and while they were not fast in the muscle car era way, they were still kind of neat and would hold their own with the products made at the same time. One of those cars was the Pontiac Ventura SJ Sprint. Yes, the thing was mostly a dress-up situation with the paint and graphics but we still dig them.
Less than 2,000 of these were made and sure it only has a Buick 350 engine (as factory installed), it’s got an automatic transmission, but it was likely one of the fastest coupes you could get your hands on outside of a Firebird or a Camaro in 1975, right? That and the fact that this is actually a pretty cool looking car.
Yes, this machine needs some work. The paint is garbage on the roof, the interior could use some refreshing to get the worn stuff out, the engine could use…well it could use a 455, but the bones are all good. This is a pretty unique car. When is the last time you saw a 1975 Pontiac Ventura SJ Sprint? Outside of some photos in a book or on the internet we’re not sure we have ever seen one in person.
The $7,500 asking price is crazy. That’s one thing we’ll come right out and say. This is a $4,500 car on a sunny day to us. Agree? Disagree? Tell us below.
That’s a Buick engine….
The Ventura were better looking than the Nova when they change body style in ’75. $7500 may be a stretch if the body have no rust issues.
As noted,, Buford Power for 1975, There were no X bodies that year with Poncho power, This was a major reason no GTO for ’75. The “true believers” in the tribe could not bear its legend without a Pontiac mill
Nice car nonetheless if you can buy below $5k
I guess that it’s all relative in where you live. In my neck of the woods (Toronto), $7,500 is not totally out of line for a rust free V-8 powered rear wheel drive project.
Indeed. $7500 all day long up here. Sweet ride.
This thing has been for sale for at LEAST two to three years.
It would have been really cool if they had put the ohc sprint 6 in that car with a 4 speed.
If the floor pan, hinge pillars and rear door pillars are in good shape, 5,500 would be fair ..
Missing a center console and the rally gauge cluster. And of course I\’d want make this sprint a455 so I could smoke me some Bandits.
I’m going to look at it on Saturday. Likely won’t buy it because it’s not a Pontiac motor. It’s very cool though. The Buick 350 is a good motor.
Looks like tree sap damage not sun.
Buick motor just kills any deal with collectors.
Yup – a 455 alright just maybe just keep it Buick instead – it might sit on those existing frame mounts. If not there’s still lotsa room
