1977 Mack Vs 1972 Chevelle! The Chase Scene From Convoy Including An Under Appreciated Jump!

1977 Mack Vs 1972 Chevelle! The Chase Scene From Convoy Including An Under Appreciated Jump!

Listen, whenever we get the chance to get Earnest Borgnine some screen time here on BangShift, we take it. Why? Who the hell knows why, honestly. The real reason we’re posting this clip from the 1970s truck-sploitation movie Convoy is because there’s a 1977 R-model Mack and a 70s street machine looking 1972 Chevelle hustling down the road. We’re not going to beat around the bushes with this one, the Chevelle gets the worst end of the matchup here, although i does meet a glorious end in one of the most under appreciated jumps in 1970s movie lore.

We all know about the Bandit bridge jump, the James Bond spiral jump, and the various scenes of automotive flight during that decade but this jump is on the level. When the car flies through the billboard and then clips the top of the barn only to land on four wheels, it is pretty impressive for both the height and distance traveled.

Convoy is a comically bad movie but this scene is kind of neat. We have no idea what Kris Kristofferson was trying to pull his shirt off at the time Borgnine (playing a kind of low rent Buford T Justice) was chasing him but it made for a clever setup that leads to the jump.

It’s Friday and this is kind of a Friday video.

Funny thing, the Chevelle the kids get out of has a 72 grill with 71 turn signals and when the Mack runs it off the road it has a 71 grill with 72 turn signals. As for the old Brock, sheesh, women drivers I tell ya.
