The Million Dollar Mustang? This 1995 Cobra R Mustang Racer Has A Seven Figure Asking Price

The Million Dollar Mustang? This 1995 Cobra R Mustang Racer Has A Seven Figure Asking Price

Let’s start with the positive. This 1995 Cobra R Mustang racer has a killer pedigree. The car was a race winner as well as a “triple crown” winner in 2002, which was the last year it could be legally raced. Competing in the Grand Am GSII Cup class, it won the driver, team, and manufacturer that year. The car also won the first race in that series at Daytona, hitting 170mph on the banks of the super speedway. Sponsored by companies like Shelby, Wilwood, Royal Purple, and others, it was a very well sorted and high performing car. The car won three races that year and it racked up four 3rd place finishes which is pretty impressive for a 10 race season.

All of that is awesome and interesting and impressive. All of that does back up the seller’s claim that this car is likely the most decorated racing 1998 Cobra R in existence but does it make the car worth $1,000,000? With only 250 of the 1995 Cobra R models produced, they are valuable cars. If you are not familiar, these cars were built with a 300hp version of the 351 Windsor engine in them, not a 302. They were hardcore and designed to be used in competition either as they sat or like in this case, after they had been thoroughly gone through by a race team.

A hardcore Ford Racing collector would undoubtedly want this car but we can’t really see where the $1,000,000 asking price is coming from. If AJ Foyt had won LeMans in it or if Parnelli Jones had won the Trans Am series in it there would be a pretty good story to sell but for a car that won a series that no one remembers and no longer exists? We’re just not feeling it.

This is a rare, cool, and valuable car, but “any offers over $1,000,000 entertained” is going to be a tough sell.

This sounds like a guy who’s wife is telling him to sell it so he throws out an insane price because he would hate to actually see it go.
