(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Saturday was our longest day at the Nationals. We went nearly everywhere outside and even made it in the building for the first time that week. We visited the autocross paddock, Mopar Country, and the 29-and-under areas. Also on the list was the builder’s showcase, a brief stop at the swap meet, and sitting on curbs checking out cars in motion.
This gallery is mostly 50s cars with more chrome and style than anything made in the past few decades. Fins, flames, and fender skirts are just some of the attributes you can assign to this era of vehicles. We did sneak in a later Thunderbird because we just didn’t know where else to categorize it. Maybe it self-identifies as a classic. Regardless, it’s in here and we hadn’t seen one in years.
Plenty of sleek and stylish Cadillacs in here along with some retro-racers, bugs, and event a Mercedes. The small-block-Chevy urged ride is super quiet thanks to it plumbing the exhaust through the stock system. Pretty cool setup and the folks with it said a LS-swap is in the works with a nice-size turbo while still planning to keep it quieter than stock.
Enjoy this gallery and come back for more from Saturday at the Nationals –
