The Well-Heeled Hellcat: The 627 Horsepower BMW M5 CS Is Lighter, Stronger, and More Powerful Than Ever Before

(By Tom Lohnes) – The BMW M5 Competition is Germany’s craziest sedan, with 617 horsepower, AWD, and ridiculously quick acceleration figures for a 4,250-pound sedan. Well, the crazy just got crazier, say hello to the 627 horsepower M5 CS.

Usually, the CS name is reserved for lighter cars, and this M5 got lighter. Shaving 230 pounds off by employing Carbon-fiber all over, the M5 CS’s 3,950-pound curb weight still can’t be considered light, but it is a whole 1,000 pounds lighter than its main competition, the porky Mercedes-Benz GT63S. The normal M5 Competition hits 60 in a factory-rated 3.0 seconds, but third-party companies have achieved as low as 2.6 seconds. Weighing less and having more power, expect the CS to achieve that and more. Inside, the CS throws away its rear middle-seat in favor of two semi-bucket seats that support the kids well for their hot lap around the Nürburgring. Exterior styling is more aggressive, with a molded carbon-fiber hood, matte bronze accents, and that Glorius matte green paint.

Pricing for an M5 CS starts at $142,500, which is a lot, but considering Porsche and Mercedes charge upwards of $200,000 for their hopped-up autobahn stormers, we have a deal on our hands. I would think of this car as a grown-up Charger Hellcat.
