A Rally Race Is Dangerous Enough Before The Steering Wheel Just Pops Off In Your Hand

A Rally Race Is Dangerous Enough Before The Steering Wheel Just Pops Off In Your Hand

Think, for a second, about all of the activity the driver in a rally team must do during a race. Steer, brake, shift, keep the car balanced, make up time, keep ahead of time, fly through the air while missing all of the trees, and whatnot is plenty dangerous for a motorsport. The last thing any driver/co-driver team wants or needs during a race is for random items to break. It’s bad enough when something like a wheel bearing or shift linkage stops playing along with the program, but about the only thing that could be as terrifying as learning that the brakes have gone would be learning that the steering is gone, and that brings us to today’s video. This team is tearing around a stage course and seems to be doing a good job when you notice the wheel wobble. It’s not bad, at first…and then the steering wheel is in the driver’s hand and he’s looking at it with the cocked-head expression that universally translates into “WTF…?” Normally, this means the day is done until something is fixed for most people, but this guy grabs the wheel hub and drives the car back to the line. There isn’t any word on if the coupling system for the wheel failed or if somebody in the pit has some ‘splaining to do, but hey…kudos for not immediately going into “WE’RE BOTH GONNA DIE!” mode!

Hats off to that man who was driving this car and took care of the circumstance. Nobody can be quiet in this discriminating circumstance, however unbelievably this driver does it. Furthermore, still finished this rally.

By this circumstance war simply isn\’t distressing as rally racing. :/
