The Formula: These Ohio Mile Racers Have 200mph Cars (or are knocking on the door) All Built Their Own Way

The Formula: These Ohio Mile Racers Have 200mph Cars (or are knocking on the door) All Built Their Own Way

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) –  One would think the recipe would be relatively easy.  Find some big power and stuff it in some slippery platform then add some tall gears and safety equipment and you’d be set.  Breaking that magical two century mark and joining the relatively small fraternity in the 200MPH club proves to be more elusive than most outsiders can imagine.  There are so many variables, formulas, theories, and paths to reach that goal.  None of these machines were created overnight and not one of them doesn’t have some serious thought, sweat, and blood behind them.  It seems the LSR folks generally approach things more pragmatically than other motorsports.  They tend to not get greedy when it comes to milestones and seeking improvement.  Most know that if they keep at it they will reach their goals.  Pushing the limit might be part of the game, but most aren’t willing to bet the farm when things get sketchy.  Knowing when to lift, pull the chute early, or even abort a run before it really gets going seems to be something the competitors carry with them from the most –seasoned veteran to 16yr-olds that just got their driver’s license.  Taking a whole car, driver, and team home to try again another day resounds with these folks.  Well done.

In this gallery you’ll see many stock car chassis and/or engines being used in more entertaining and creative ways than NASCAR has done in decades.  There are some odd and unconventional routes while also you have the sledge hammer method of busting through that barrier with brute force.  You’ve got blowers, turbos, nitrous, and all grunt getting it done or nearly there.  We were sad to see the big Caddy toss its tranny early on, but with this kind of effort anything can and often does fail.  Seems most take that as part of playing the game.  Everyone (except one) here kept it pointed down-course and I believe nearly all of these ran new bests and/or set records.  Some teams are big family efforts and the fellowship among competitors and crews really enhance the whole experience.  If you haven’t made it out for one of these events I strongly urge you to give it a try.  I won’t say we are 100% hooked yet, but I also know we will make every event we can and have an ultimate goal of getting to the salt one day.  Enjoy.

    Hello,

This article is good. Furthermore, we all are sitting tight with eagerness for the event so we can see all the cars utilizing their Nitro and turbos as a part of the occasion. 🙂
